Coffee Sleeves and Journals

I make the quilted panels for the journals with free motion quilting. Imagine a vise holding a pen and moving paper under it to draw an image. Instead of a stationary pen, the needle is moving up and down and I move the cotton under it to create a freehand image. No computer programs, templates or sketching first. The cover is fitted so that it may be removed, if needed. Price includes an artist-quality, non-lined journal.

Each coffee sleeve is made of textured fabric that I construct, one piece at a time. After I cut a piece of (usually) cotton fabric to the size I want to work with, just for that particular book or handbag, I layer that background with yarns and other fibers. Over the top of this, I pin a sheet of stabilizer to trap all the fiber. I stitch over the whole thing in a random fashion to secure the fiber and then wash out the stabilizer. As it dries, the piece becomes puckered and pinched from the quilting, creating more texture. The coffee sleeves are finished, no seams showing, and slide onto a 12 or 16 oz cup.

These are samples. I usually have a variety available. I also do custom work if there is something you have in mind.
